Louisville, KY
June 23-26

This year’s Annual Meeting will be held from June 23 to June 26, 2022 in Louisville, KY. The location of our meeting this year was selected in a slightly unorthodox manner. Most often our geographical location is determined when an invitation is received from a member wanting to host the meeting in their hometown or at least in their home state. This meeting location came about as a result of a somewhat casual conversation about some interesting destinations for us to visit but where we might not have an H.F.A. member. There were three couples involved in this conversation Nancy and Gary Lee, Kevin and Pat Kelly and Ruth and Bill Hathaway. As a result, we have perhaps the first annual meeting hosted by committee.

Nancy shared the following thoughts about Louisville and our upcoming meeting as we were discussing the possibility: “I think of Louisville as having Southern charm in a Midwest city don't know if the tourism people would agree.” Even if the tourism people disagree, we will trust Nancy’s sentiments and anticipate a delightful meeting in a charming city.

No visit to Louisville would be complete without visiting Churchill Downs and we are going to do better than that by holding our annual meeting in the Kentucky Derby Museum right at Churchill Downs on Saturday June 25, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. Following our meeting there will be a lunch buffet, an historic walking tour of Churchill Downs and a tour of the museum, which we hope will be followed by a chance to experience Thoroughbred Racing (wagering optional).

In recent years we have been expanding our gathering to include planned activities on more than one day. Friday will feature a Blue Grass Tours bus tour of Louisville. On the tour we will experience two additional icons of Louisville, Baseball bats and Bourbon. Our tour includes a guided tour of Louisville Slugger Museum and Factory (everyone leaves with a souvenir miniature bat), a box lunch at Louisville Slugger and a tour and Bourbon tasting at Buffalo Trace Distillery (children sample Bourbon Balls and Root Beer). For evening dining this year it seemed appropriate not to organize large gatherings but instead to leave the choice up to each individual or family group.

Between the old-fashioned cordial spirit of the Hathaway Family and the Southern Charm of the City of Louisville, we can anticipate a most enjoyable time together. So, mark your calendars, dust off your lucky horseshoe and make your reservations to join us in Louisville.
